Blog
Sarah Clemens: testing...one, two...

February 26, 2009

Hello, and welcome to my first ever attempt at a blog. I've decided that it's time to get with the 21st century, and to that end, I"ve opened a Twitter and Facebook account and am now embarking into the blogosphere. Whew.

First things first: I went to the mailbox today and got a pleasant surprise. I had been shipped 2 copies of Ellen Datlow's anthology, Twists of the Tail, which was first published in 1996, and contains my short story, "I Gatti di Roma." It comes from Wildside Press, and honestly, it feels great to see one of my stories back in print. I am an artist who also writes, and I've only had 4 short stories published, but two were with Ellen, and two were with Gardner Dozois, one published in "Asimov's", so I feel I'm in good company.

I am actually working on a writing project right now. It's not easy getting back in that saddle, but it's starting to come more easily now. Trying to paint and write on the same day means shifting from visual to verbal, and they are differert processes. Wish me luck.

Radcon 5a, Pasco, Washington
It was my privelege to be Artist Guest of Honor at Radcon 5a. 5a? Yes, they change the actual number every leap year, in case you were wondering. What a great convention! These guys really know how to run a con, and do they know how to party! I haven't spent a lot of time in Washington State, so it was great making new friends in this part of the world. I met more than one person here that grew up with Radcon. There's a lot of love for this convention. They nurture it from year to year and it has flourished. The roster of guests was impressive and the panels were well attended and lively.

Here's the art room crew:
Tim, Derrick, Karen (standing), Tish (seated) and Christina

So what was the Fairy's crime? At Radcon we held a competition and a group of us selected these three crimes as the most original, and had a drawing.

1) Pulling petals off the Bluebell Tower--won the drawing!

2) Switching babies without a license

3) Turning a neighbor's house blue with pink stripes.

Honorable mention:
Possession of Fairy Dust with Intent to Sell
F.U.I. Flying Under the Influence
Failing to be Perky
Pixilated in Public
Bitch slappin' Tinkerbell--and Peter liked it!
